DR. GARBA USMAN TETENGI, LL.B, LL.M,PhD. BL, mni, SAN, MDRI
Dr. Garba Usman Tetengi was born on 2nd November, 1963 in Jos. He hails from Bida Niger State. He attended St. Theresa Boys Primary School in Jos, between 1968-1974 and proceeded to the Federal Government College Jos, for his secondary education which he completed in 1980. He obtained his law degree from the ABU, Zaria in 1984 and was called to the Bar in 1985.His other educational exploits include obtaining an LL.M. in 1990 and Ph.D in 2000. He also attended the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in 2002 and other professional courses.
He cut his legal teeth with the Chambers of BABA ADI & CO. between 1986 and 1992, before setting up the chambers of Garba Tetengi & Co in 1992. He is a Notary Public and an Associate Member, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of Nigeria (UK), the African Bar Association, International Bar Association and Institute of Dispute Resolution in Nigeria.
He was appointed as a Council Member University of Lagos by the Jonathan Administration in the year 2013 and served for Four (4) Years.
He is also a Member of the Body of Benchers from 2017 to date. (The highest body, with distinction in the legal profession).
Dr. Tetengi is known for his laudable contribution and selfless service to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the legal Profession. He served as Secretary of the Jos Banch from 1992-1995. He chaired the Jos branch of the NBA between 1997 – 1999. In the 2000, he was elected 2nd Vice President of the NBA. He was the Chairman, Criminal Litigation Committee of the Section on Legal Practice of NBA in 2012. He is the immediate Past Chair of the Criminal Justice Reform Committee of the NBA from 2012-2014. He was a former Member, Council of legal Education between 2006-2009. He was also a member of the National Judicial Council between 2014 -2018 and a member of the NBA Disciplinary Committee among others. At various times he had served in various Committees of the NBA including Data Base and law Reform. In 2001, and 2009 he was appointed Member of the Conference Planning Committee, NBA, and in 2017 was Alternate Chairman, Conference Planning Committee NBA. He is a Member of the General Council of the Bar and Member Corruption and Financial Crimes Monitoring Committee appointed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria in 2017. He was the Chairman, Constitution Review Committee of the NBA in 2014. He is a member of the Endsars Panel set up by the Federal Government under the National Human Rights Commission in 2020
He was a Chairman of Local Government Election Tribunal Niger State in 2003.
He became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2012 in the category of advocates.
He had also served as Legal Adviser and Vice President of the Alumni of the Prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in 2003 – 2005 and 2013 – 2017 respectively.
He is a recipient of several awards.
He had written and Presented several intellectual Papers too numerous to mention.
